Research Project Ongoing 1999–Present

The OBE Project

A longitudinal investigation of lucid dreaming, sleep-transition phenomena and apparent out-of-body experience.

The OBE Project brings together more than two decades of personal records concerning lucid dreams, apparent out-of-body experiences, false awakenings, transitional sleep phenomena and related altered states of consciousness.

The project combines a retrospective archive beginning in 1999 with a prospective research journal commenced in 2026. Historical records are preserved in their original form, while contemporary classification and analysis are kept separate from the original interpretation of events.

The purpose of the project is not to assume that apparent out-of-body experiences are either objectively external events or conventional dreams. Instead, the archive is being examined for recurring phenomenology, differences between states, verification attempts, failures, environmental correspondences and changes in awareness across time.

PERSONAL RECORD PROSPECTIVE DATA PHENOMENOLOGY VERIFICATION ATTEMPTS

Retrospective Archive

Historical dream and OBE-related records are classified phenomenologically while preserving the wording and interpretation present in the original journal.

Prospective Journal

Deliberate OBE practice from September 2026 onward is documented attempt by attempt, including uneventful sessions and failed induction attempts.

External Variables

Astronomical and environmental variables may be added after phenomenological classification in order to reduce retrospective bias.

OBE & Dream Research Archive

The public retrospective archive contains 49 dated historical entries documenting lucid dreams, sleep-transition phenomena, apparent out-of-body experiences, false awakenings and related dream material recorded between 1999 and 2018.

Original journal wording and dates are preserved wherever possible. Identifiable personal names have been reduced to initials for publication, while later phenomenological classifications remain separate from the historical record.

The archive also includes an exploratory lunar-context layer added only after the 2026 classifications were completed. No lunar correlation or objectively external interpretation of apparent out-of-body experiences is assumed.
